At Shelf Lovers, you’ll find a curated collection of LGBTQ+ books for all ages—including hard-to-find titles often missing from mainstream bookstores. Alongside our book range, we also offer LGBTQ+ themed gifts, greeting cards and other geekery perfect for readers and book lovers.

The shelf lovers story
About Us
Founded by Kat, a former librarian and passionate book lover, Shelf Lovers was born from a personal journey to find inclusive stories.
When her son came out as transgender and gay, Kat discovered how hard it was to access LGBTQ+ books in Australia—many had to be sourced from overseas. Determined to change that, she created Shelf Lovers, an online bookstore where readers can buy LGBTQ+ books online in Australia alongside a highly curated collection of other books, gifts and knick-knacks.
Beyond the shelves, Kat also hosts pop-up shops, storytime sessions, and book circles, building a welcoming community for readers to connect and celebrate diverse stories.

What's On
Shelf Lovers is more than just a bookstore. In addition to our unique collection of books and gifts, we are also proud to host a range of in-person events including book circles, launches and author chats, trivia and bingo nights and more.
One such regular event is our popular Drag Storytime. Presented in collaboration with Queer and Here, Storytime is held every two months at Ad Astra's Halley's Cottage. Featuring brilliant Queens, great stories, music and joy, our drag storytime events are a fun way to get kids (and families) to engage with reading and the community. The events are open to all ages and promote inclusivity, helping to build greater acceptance. Above all, they are a great afternoon of books and celebration!
